The Skulltress isn't Skeletor's fortress in a gritty remake of He-Man. It's the name of make up artist Vanessa Davis, a Mexican-British lady who stuns the world with fantasic make up styles that all involve skulls. "I didn’t have a costume ready so I painted half of a skull on my face," Vanessa recounted her origin story online. "I was approached and photographed non-stop throughout the evening. This coincided with opening an account on Instagram, @the_wigs_and_makeup_manager and I noticed that the successful makeup accounts specialised in either a particular style or subject, so I chose skulls, which also worked as my heritage is Mexican and English.""I am fascinated how skulls are portrayed in fashion, art and tattoo art, particularly by Alexander McQueen and Damien Hurst," Vanessa said. "The look always incorporates the skull motif however I use different themes to create them. For example, a skull made of bubbles, or swans, or stars. My looks are a combination of makeup and mixed media for example crystals, spikes, glitter." Her "Disco Skull" look is her favorite piece so far, and the people love it all, too. It took only a year and a half for Vanessa's Instagram account to accumulate 230K followers - and they just keep flocking!
