Park benches don't catch our attention that much, unless they're freshly painted, broken or on fire. However, park bench will see a lot of human life go by during its silent service. Will it record those moments for posterity? No, but Yevhen Kotenko took pictures of bench through the 4th floor window of his parents’ kitchen - for ten years.
Yevhen started this project documenting the life of one bench in Kyev in 2007 or 2008. “I didn’t give myself any time limits or goals, I just went to the kitchen and looked out the window. Usually there was something to see,” he told the press. He is fond of the neighborhood he grew up in, but there were bad things, too. “The worst thing was seeing people I went to school with drinking on this bench, then crawling home like reptiles,” he said. “I was scared that if I went outside, I’d become one of them.”
