Riae Suicide, The Tattooed Model You Wish You Were

A person of the internet world, you may have heard of this website called Suicide Girls. And if you haven't, let me englighten you: it's an online community for pin up models where they share their nude (and sometimes not nude) art. It focuses on alternative models, the so called suicide girls, who usually come from subcultures and prominently feature piercings, funky hair colors, and tattoos. A lot of tattoos. The name comes from a quote from Chuck Palahniuk's novel Survivor: "It's the same with these suicide girls calling me up." It refers to women who commit a social suicide because they don't care about fitting in. This formula seems to work, as Suicide Girls have more than 6 million Facebook fans and nearly 6 million Instagram followers. And Riae Suicide is one of their hottest models.

Riae got her suicide in 2007, when she was 23ish (she just turned 33 this year, telling her Twitter followers that she's happier than she was 10 years ago). Back then, she was living in Berlin, when her friend offered to try it out and do a photoshoot as Riae had recently discovered suicidegirls.com.

"It was my "baptism of lens" and I must admit that aside from the first ten minutes of panic and embarrassment all came out naturally even if it was an integral nudity/erotic set," she told Fluffer magazine. This must have been a fun break for a girl who had had to make her living ever since she left her parents at 16, bouncing around such exciting jobs as "waitress" and "secretary at a tatoo parlor."

Finding Suicide Girls was a big thing for Riae and her satisfaction with her body image. "I never had a good relationship with my body, I’m pretty short and shapely and I have a visage which doesn’t fare well in terms of classic beauty standards (no fleshy lips, for example) therefore I never thought I could become a model," she told the Fluffer.

"Let’s also say that a good amount of my exes always made it clear that I had to be grateful to them because of how kind they were to be together with an ugly one like me, thus smashing the already low self-esteem I had. That was all I had until I discovered the site suicidegirls.com and I realized that there could’ve been an alternative to the classic beauty canons I evidently didn’t belong to." And since online people had a more refined visual taste that whatever half-blind philistines she had dated up to that point, the modeling fun train started going full steam!

Riae claims that she is naturally shy and introverted... until she is presented with a camera. Then she tries to seduce the camera and the lens (and not the photographer), which gives her photographs such a standout quality. Riae also had strong opinions on genres of photography: "My favourite genres are erotic nude and glamour, because I can "use" my body as I wish and I’m more free compared to beauty (which I despise) or to artistic nude for which I’m not physically fit. I also like fetish a lot, even if I’m not competent about it. Not being 100% part of such a world I’m always afraid to send the wrong message."

Presently, modeling takes up a lot of her time, and she is based in Italy. Riae spends a lot of time working on costumes and props for her pictures, as she wants to make them look the best they can. She also has dreams of starting her own lingerie line. But for now, you can catch up on all of her busy work on Suicide Girls (duh), Facebook, Twitter, Patreon, Instagram, Tumblr, VK.
